                                              County Commissioner Kenneth “Ken” Klakamp

 

Commissioner was raised in Garland in Western Warren County. He is a 1974 graduate of Youngsville High School. After high school graduation he enlisted in the US Army. After training he was assigned as a Correctional Facility for a year and a half then was re-assigned and served as a road Military Policeman where he served a Patrol Supervisor, Sergeant of the Guard and Squad Leader.

Upon leaving the Army he was hired at the Warren County Sheriff’s Office where he served for over 43 years. The last 9 years as the Sheriff of Warren County. While serving with the Sheriff’s Office he attended Jamestown Community College obtaining several college credits in Criminal Justice.

During Commissioner Klakamp’s service as Sheriff, he created several programs to better serve the community. A few programs most notable were the Warren County School Resource Deputies, Automatic Defibrillators in Sheriff’s vehicles, Training of all Sheriff’s Deputies to carry and administrate Naloxone.

Also while Sheriff, he wrote and taught a training on the signs and symptoms of “Bath Salts”. The course was called “Not your Grandmas’ Bath Salts”. As a result, Emergency Medical trained personnel received Continuing Education credits for taking the training. He had the pleasure of traveling throughout the Commonwealth teaching the classes.

Commissioner Klakamp has been in all aspects of being a First Responder. During his career he was involved in Law Enforcement and was a member of the Garland Volunteer Fire Department having served as Assistant Fire Chief. He Obtained certification as an Emergency Medical Technician and was certified as an EMT instructor. He is a lifetime member of the Garland Volunteer Fire Department. He served as 9-1-1 Co-Ordinator for 11 years and was involved in bringing Warre County from a seven-digit phone number to Basic 9-1-1. He also served as the Interim Emergency Manager. 

From July 2018-2019 He served as the President of the Pennsylvania Sheriff’s Association and is a life member.  

He was appointed by Governor Tom Wolfe to the Pennsylvania Sheriff’s/Deputy Sheriff’s Training Board.
